Rescued May 26, 2010 – Now we’ve been adopted!

Luna and Astro, safe at FSHR

I, Luna, was at the livestock auction, being bid upon by dealers who would send me to be horribly slaughtered in Mexico. I don’t know what would have happened to my foal. But Fresh Start Horse Rescue got me instead, helped with the bidding by a kind friend. I was in poor condition, and almost died of colic, incurring huge vet bills. Thanks to all the angels who helped me, because THREE lives were saved that day! The whole time, I was pregnant with Astro’s brother! No one knew until after I’d been at my new home for a few months…

I love all the attention I get, though my attitude toward a new person is impossible to predict. I can be very sweet, a “moosh,” as one volunteer called me while I melted under her soft hands at the end of that long, horrible day of colic. Or, I might pin my ears. I have a double face whorl, right in line with my complex personality! I will do anything for my adoptive mom, Mimi, and her kids. They’ve given me a great home! They love me and ride me all the time. I am so happy.

Astro beside Comet

Astro is very healthy, and loves to play! Like any youngster, he’s itchy and mouthy and learning not to be rude. When we lived at FSHR, he especially loved to pester his “big brother,” Comet, the Quarter Horse yearling who lived in our pasture with us. Astro ties, leads, and carries stuffed animals around on his back, thanks to the Fresh Start kids and their puppy, who taught Astro to yield to pressure. He is a little chunk, too. He has been adopted by the same terrific family who adopted Peanuts (re-named Flicka) from Fresh Start a few years ago. Gloria has re-named Astro: Cherokee.
