I celebrate my life

Donna and me: I am home at last!

I have a lot to celebrate!

It is early August and I have just been adopted by a young woman, Donna, whom I really love.  My mother Liberty and I love our new place. Donna will foster my mother until I am weaned, and then she will return to FSHR unless already adopted. I am halter broke, have had my feet trimmed, and am ready to go!

One month after my mother was rescued, I was born on May 5, 2011, a healthy, long-legged, black colt. My life might have ended before I was born, or in the midst of a nightmare, to end in suffering. But instead, my life began in security and love.

I am 12 days old in this “celebrating” picture, already thriving, thanks to the angels who teamed up to rescue my mother and her friends, Clover and Princess, Clover’s foal. They named my mother Liberty, to celebrate her liberation from danger and the bondage of hardship.

Would you like to see how I have grown?

Beside mama, 1 day old

When I was 3 & 4 days old, my mama’s teats grew sore. She did not want me to nurse at all, so the people at Fresh Start had to halter and hold her still for me several times a day.

Mama moves away, so I can't nurse.

Princess, my "sister," had already begun to torment me!

Now we are fast friends.

We all have a lot of fun together, mamas and babies, thanks to lots of attentive care, and donations that help to feed our mothers and keep them gaining in health while supplying us youngsters with the nutrients we need.

I have been adopted as a suckling, with Donna fostering my mother until I am weaned. Princess can also be adopted under the same conditions.

All of the kateers who are not yet adopted, including Liberty, are available for sponsorship. If you sponsor one of them, they will send you pictures & updates of their progress!

Thanks, everyone, for caring about us and saving our lives!

All of "us-Kateers", together

My first hoof trim...Daniel trims me, Donna keeps me safe, Junior gets snacks..

My Donna scratches me!

Freedom is an awesome little guy and still very young. He doesn’t have an adoption fee assigned yet because he’s still a suckling at his mother’s side. He is not old enough to be adopted…the only way adoption could be considered, right NOW, is if the potential adopter was willing to foster his mother Liberty, assuming all feed costs for the pair, as an entrance into the adoption process. All other facets of the adoption process would still need to be observed. Liberty would be returned at weaning (unless the adopter fell in love with her, too!). I don’t think the board would finalize an adoption of Freedom prior to him being gelded. Thank you for your interest! If you are serious about adopting Freedom and wish to pursue this further, please email us at info@freshstarthorserescue.org and we can talk.

I’m not sure where Indian Hills is…we foster our horses pretty locally. We are in Southwest Colorado in Montezuma County.
