Rescues

Winnie & Sam:  We purchased this somewhat small mare and her adorable foal
in July 2008 from a dealer who had planned to send the mother to slaughter,
leaving her bay colt an orphan. Follow their ongoing saga on the Horsy Blog.

Day One (these pictures don't do justice to the prominence of Winnie's vertebrae, rib cage and other bone structures)

Lady Black: This 4-year-old filly was wild and unapproachable when we rescued her.
She is actually not black, but black bay...or grulla? (also has a dorsal stripe).
She is halter-broke and eager to start.

Silly Wizard: This American Mustang was starved and very sick with a respiratory ailment
when we obtained him from a dealer at the livestock auction, as well as very fearful
of food, people and new situations. He loves apples, carrots, and volunteers.

Blue: This 18-year-old registered Tennessee Walker arrived in spring 2007.  His owners were unable to feed him.  He's an imposing 15 hands, and very gentle and friendly with excellent ground manners.  Anyone can ride.

Sundance: Adopted!   This little 3-y-o red roan came to us through the livestock auction--
wild, wormy, and a "gelding."

I am adoptable!

Emily Marie
, 14-year-old Quarter Horse, was surrendered to us in March 2007 by her owners who were unable to take care of her. They told us she lost her ear to a mountain lion. This picture taken the day after she got here at 850 lbs. She's since been adopted out to a wonderful home with a wonderful lady and a Friesian friend.

Chief, a 7-year-old black and white tobiano stallion, registerable with APHA,
15 hh, not trained to ride.  Big and friendly, loves to be brushed. Adopted.
